Who we are
The East Greenwich Residents Association (EGRA) is a community-led organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life in East Greenwich. We work to protect green spaces, enhance the public realm, and ensure local residents have a meaningful voice in planning and development decisions. Our mission is to create a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant neighbourhood where everyone can thrive.
Our history
EGRA was founded in 2013 by a group of passionate residents concerned about rapid development and its impact on the local community. Initially formed to address specific issues, such as the Greenwich Cruise Terminal project, the association quickly grew into a wider platform advocating for sustainable development, public health, and community well-being.
One of EGRA’s early successes was the fight against the proposed cruise terminal at Enderby’s Wharf, a project that would have brought significant air pollution to the area. Through persistent advocacy and collaboration with other groups, EGRA successfully halted the development, sparing the community from harmful environmental impacts.
Over the years, EGRA has evolved to address a broad range of local concerns, from air quality and traffic management to public space preservation and community cohesion.
One of our most important projects was the rejection of the plans for the Cruise Terminal. You can read more about the impact and what happened here:
What we do
At EGRA, we focus on:
Community-led development: Actively involving residents in shaping the future of East Greenwich.
Protecting green spaces: Safeguarding parks, public areas, and facilities that are vital to our neighbourhood.
Improving the public realm: Advocating for better streets, pavements, and infrastructure to create a safer, more welcoming environment.
Empowering residents: Providing a unified voice for the community in discussions with local authorities and developers.
How we work
To achieve our goals, EGRA follows a strategic and inclusive approach:
Establishing a Neighbourhood Forum: We aim to formalise our structure to meet legal requirements, allowing residents to actively shape decision-making.
Building a Neighbourhood Plan: We collaborate with residents, businesses, and the council to develop a plan that reflects local needs and aspirations.
Forging partnerships: By working with councils, developers, and other stakeholders, we ensure projects align with community priorities.
Uniting the community: We bring together residents and local groups to foster collaboration and inclusivity.
Membership
EGRA is open to everyone who lives, works, or represents East Greenwich. Membership is free, and we welcome voluntary contributions to support our initiatives. By joining, you can help shape the future of our neighbourhood and ensure your voice is heard.
Get involved
Whether you want to share ideas, participate in community projects, or simply stay informed, EGRA is here to help you make a difference. Together, we can create a better East Greenwich for generations to come.
EGRA focuses on matters that have a direct impact on East Greenwich and its residents. This includes (but is not always limited to) residential neighbourhoods east of Greenwich Park, the SE10 area south of Trafalgar Road / Woolwich Road, but north of the railway line; the SE10 area south of the Greenwich Millennium Village.
